Way to a Happy life |
|
Worry is to man, what serpent is to the bird. the word worry means to choke or strangulate. Its taste is detestable. Its smell is poisonous. It jaws are dark grave where only self destruction is possible. Then why should one worry? Life is too short and sweet to be wasted in worry. Be joyful,
think of joy and speak joyfully. when we grow older, naturally we ponder
over the opportunities we have missed. When the wheel of fortune is being
spun in your favour, utilize it and glad for it. It is not certain that
the same wheel will stop at the same point next time. Avail and
opportunities and rejoice in it, but the means should be based on virtues. |

DOES THE MOUTH PUT THE HEART
AT RISK? |
|
The wonderful words from the mouth can make the heart happy and gay. But, can the mouth put the heart at risk? "A merry heart maketh a cheerful countenance". States the book of proverbs. "But by the sorrows of the heart the spirit is broken". In language, hearts not only break, but sing, dance, laugh or turn as hard as stone, become heavy or light, warm or cold, but in science, heart is subject to assaults from the number of sources that are both known or unknown. THE EMERGING CONNECTION BETWEEN ORAL INFECTION AND CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE. Dental diseases are the most common bacterial infections occurring in the people who delay seeking dental care. These chronic oral infections may also influence the over all health of the person leading to various other diseases like respiratory diseases, diabetes, pre-term delivery, etc. Amongst these diseases, the association between periodontal diseases (diseases relating to gums) and cardiovascular diseases have occupied a significant place. HOW PERIODONTITIS CAN PUT THE HEART AT RISK? Periodontitis is a disease in which the gums of the teeth are infected. During Periodontitis, the infected micro-organisms from the gums are prone to dissemination through the blood to the heart and thus causes heart disease (infective endocarditis). The diseases of the heart such as myocardial infarction is often proceeded by the acute blockages in the blood vessels (thrombo embolic events). Oral microbial pathogens (micro-organisms) in dental plaque can move through the circulation of blood and activate the Platelets, white blood cells and endothelium (lining of the vessels) and thus infect the cardio vascular tissues. The infection caused above changes the fat metabolism and due to this there is more accumulation of fat in the blood vessels which leads to atheroselerosis. In fact, the pro-inflammatory cytokines, secreted by the host cells and infected micro-organisms, affect the lipoprotein lipase which helps in the metabolism of fat. Several bacterial species of micro-organisms such as streptococcus sanguis, porphyromanas gingivalis, induce the blood platelets to aggregate in the blood vessels. This causes formation of thrombi. Recent research studies conducted in various parts of the world indicate that persons with poor oral hygiene and infected gums are more prone to heart diseases as compared to the others. In India, periodontal problem is one of the most common dental disease especially in elderly Indian. Almost every Indian above 40 years is suffering from periodontal disease. If you are
one of these Indians and if you are at risk for periodontal disease, do visit
your periodontal for the periodontal evaluation and set yourself free from any
other systemic diseases. remember, healthy gums lead to a healthy body. |
